Cruise Letter: Crafty Number
Idyllic conditions, consistent waves and a few crafty numbers being served up at the in-house bar at Stoke Beach House this week.
And as the good Laird prophesied, Sydney’s newest, best, and perhaps only surf specific 5-star hostel has opened its doors in downtown Manly. A couple of blocks from the famous beach where Australian surfing all kicked off, surrounded by Manly’s famous bars, restaurants and beachside life.
You may remember us as the old Manly Backpackers, but that’s yesterday’s news. The Stoke Beach House, Manly, is a new and improved way to stay and play in Sydney. An all-inclusive surf camp where every waking moment is filled with new experiences and a rotating cast of best friends, where we surf until we drop, eat together, socialise and explore this beautiful slice of the world.
And when the day is done, the Stoke Beach House is the perfect place for a beer and yarn or six, the spot to prepare yourself for the night ahead.
Whether you’re already in the area or planning on visiting soon, swing by the Stoke Surf House and bury yourself in the good vibes.
We’ve got fun shoulder high swell surf turning into overhead waves for the weekend, but with the chance of onshore winds ruining the fun. If you’re an experienced shred lord you’re going to want to hit it as early as the night before allows you to, so you can get a wiggle in before the worst of the wind. If not, however, never fear because some onshore rollers are always fun, and the breeze keeps the less-enthusiastic surf rats at bay.
For those just starting out, you’re in luck, because with the Manly Surf School every day is absolutely pumping for beginners, no matter the conditions. When it’s small, we’ll have a ball, and when it’s huge, there’s even more for us to play with.
We’re opening! Which means a huge party, new surf partners, some nights on the town, legend building, you name it; we’re doing it this week. The Manly Marketplace will be on the Corso this Sunday from 8 am, and like every week it’s the best place to get your hands on some vintage treats. And happy hour at the Steyne goes off every Friday from 5-8 pm, make sure you flash your Stoke Beach House card for exclusive locals-only deals (even the locals don’t get them).
How can we go past Gunther, the Belgium blaster, absolute frother, who has consistently stayed awake later – and surfed earlier – than absolutely everybody in the beach house. We don’t know how he has the stamina, but Gunther we salute you.
