Our Guide To Aussie Cuisine

It’s time Australian cuisine puts its mark on the map. While we might not be as refined as the French or as passionate as the Italians, Australia has paved the way for cheap delicacies. While these food choices can be confusing to literally any other culture, Aussies do not care. We will continue to drown our hot chips in tomato sauce and chicken salt, drink spiders, and line up for shitty sausage sammys at Bunnings every weekend BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT WE LIKE TO DO. And no one can tell us any different.

Let’s start with the basics…

1. FAIRY BREAD

Comprises of white sliced bread(ideally tip top), butter and hundreds & thousands (better version of sprinkles) A delicacy for kids’ b’day parties.

2. VEGEMITE

The icon. The original. For all those newbies.. whatever you do, do not eat it with a spoon from the jar. Made to spread tiny amounts on toast with loads of butter.

3. COFFEE

Aussies are very chill about everything except coffee. We are big snobs. Whatever you do, do not ask for an Americano or an iced frappe with two pumps of caramel. Instead, try a FLAT WHITE!

4. AUSSIE BBQ

No brisket or pulled pork here… Bunning’s style sausage sizzle. Cheap white sliced bread, cheapest beef sausage and grilled onions. If the onions aren’t burnt forget about it. Load them up with BBQ or Tomato Sauce and you’re good to go.

Whoever came up with “shrimp on the barbie” IT DOESN’T EXIST. No Aussie puts prawns (yes, we call them prawns) on the BBQ.

Once you’ve mastered the basics of Aussie Cuisine, you’ll fit in with all the true blue bogans of AUS. While these may seem strange to outsiders, Aussies really do treasure the simple things in life, and it’s even better if it’s cheap as chips.
