East Coast Road Trip: Starting Your Journey in Manly
Planning an epic road trip along Australia’s stunning East Coast? Look no further! Manly is the perfect spot to start your adventure.
Traveling isn’t just about sightseeing and snapping Instagram-worthy pictures—it’s also about connecting with new places in a meaningful way. For those staying at Stoke Beach House who want to make an impact while having fun, Manly offers plenty of opportunities to give back through volunteering.
From environmental conservation to community-based projects, here are some incredible ways to practice sustainable travel and get involved while you explore.
Loving Manly Beach? Help keep it pristine by joining Emu Parade, a local initiative that plans beach clean-up events along the Northern Beaches with a unique twist. Volunteers contribute to conservation efforts and enjoy a delicious reward of free coffee, creating a fun and social atmosphere. Emu Parade focuses on celebrating connection through conservation —one cuppa at a time. It’s an easy and rewarding way to give back while enjoying Sydney’s beautiful coastline.
Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve (or Shelly Beach) is our guest’s favorite snorkeling spot just 5 minutes from Stoke. FOCTB volunteers educate visitors, promote marine conservation, and help monitor illegal activity in this ‘No Take’ reserve. If you love the ocean, this is a perfect way to contribute.
Many of our guests come to Manly to take sailing courses, so this is a great way to get involved in the local sailing scene while giving back to the community. Sailability Manly offers people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy recreational or competitive sailing. Volunteers rig boats, support participants, drive support boats, and even cook sausages. Sailing days occur every second Wednesday and Saturday, plus one Monday a month. It’s a fantastic way to give back while enjoying Sydney’s stunning waterside setting.
Just 10 minutes from Stoke Beach House, North Head is a stunning national park offering breathtaking coastal views, rich biodiversity, and a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle. North Head Sanctuary Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation where every volunteer plays a role in benefiting the environment. There are many ways to get involved, including working in the nursery, helping with weeding, assisting at events, and much more. If you love being in nature, volunteering here is a fantastic way to contribute to Sydney’s natural beauty while learning about its unique ecosystem.
Additionally, here are some reasons why volunteering is a great idea while you travel:
Volunteering connects you with people who share similar values and interests, helping you form lasting bonds and friendships.
Through volunteering, you can acquire new skills that are beneficial for both personal development and your career. Adding volunteer experience to your resume shows employers you’re proactive, compassionate, and committed to positive change.
There’s nothing like the fulfilment that comes from helping others and knowing you’ve made a difference in the community.
Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and get to know the community beyond the usual tourist spots.
The contributions you make during your time in Sydney will have a lasting effect, leaving behind a positive legacy for both the environment and the people you helped.
